Wired Network

Wired network is easy to setup and it is the most traditional network used. Most homes and offices use them because they are easy to setup and do not need much installation, just wires. the secret being knowing where to lie the wires down without making a mess. Let’s see some of the Pros and Cons of this type of setup.

The Pros to a Wired Network

  • Cost
Even though it can be expensive to buy all the wires to wire the entire house for a wired network, it is still the most inexpensive solution in terms of networking, which makes it very appealing.

  • Reliability
If all the wires are correctly connected up you should hardly ever run into a problem.

  • Speed
Although wireless has made a great improvement from the 802.11b standard to 802.11g, it still cannot match the speeds that are now being introduced by new advancements in cabling technology. With speeds now hitting around 10 gigabits per second with category 6 cabling, wireless can not keep up at the moment.

  • Security
Wired Network is more secure because no one can get on to your network unless they get a network cable and plug it in.

The Cons to a Wired Network

  • Setup
With the setting up of the network its not too difficult putting the wires down, but if you have not got a clue about networks then you may come into problems.

  • Lack of mobility / flexibility
Mobility / flexibility is one major program because you need to have a cable to access the internet everywhere in the house which can cause problems and wiring nightmares. That's one good thing about the wireless you can move your computer or your laptop without having any wires for the network.

  • Wiring messes
Behind all computers there is a lot of wires and having the network attached can make more mess, especially when you would like the computer the other side the room to where the internet port it, so you would have to have a cable right around the room, and if its not neatly down can be an eye saw for your guests to see.

  • Speed

  • Reliability
Wireless network is very reliable and the closer you are to the router the stronger the connection is, even though you can go up to 20 meters away and can add extenders so the signal can be stronger in your house or office, but you can get discounted the odd times but takes few seconds to long back on to the network.

  • Cost
If your PC or Laptop is not wireless then it gets more expensive because you have to buy new wireless cards for all your PCs and the wireless router can be more expensive than a non-wireless router.

  • Setup
If your PC or laptop is not wireless you have to install a wireless card even though it can be easy to install if you do not now the inside of a PC you might not know where to plug it in.
